So this months DIY is a little different, it's a fashion DIY! This is a really easy and fun way to update your wardrobe without spending any money. So the first t shirt I have is a cheap camo print muscle tee from Supre. It is quite over sized and the top of it is just not flattering at all. I picked this up in a sale for around $5.00 and haven't really worn it. I love camo print though so I wanted to try and make it work. First thing it did was measure an inch in from the shoulder, I then eyeballed an inch below the arm hole and just went at it with my scissors! I then tidied up any rough areas. I then folded it in half and cut the arm area the same way but i used the already cut arm hole as a guide. I then needed to alter the neck. So I cut along the seam that was already there, I then cut just the front panel a little lower. Because this t shirt was so oversized to begin with the top remained that way. I wear it slightly off one shoulder and I think it is so much more flattering. It had a really high neckline originally that cut me off. It now shows my collar bones and a little lower which for my body shape is really flattering. I think I might cut the bottom off and turn it into a crop to wear with high waisted jeans. I'll keep you posted on this though! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4CkspalN4oo The next shirt I did was the whole reason I wanted to DIY these shirts. I got this t shirt from Romwe and I love the style. The sleeves however are really long. So I did this the exact same way as the last one. I laid it as flat as I could on the ground then went about an inch from the shoulder and began cutting down to an inch below the arm hole. I then laid the cut sleeve against the uncut sleeve and cut it the same. I decided to leave the collar on this one for now as I quite like the style. The only thing is that it sticks out on both sides by the bust. This doesn't bother me to much but if anyone has any tips on how to cut it so it'll sit flat I would love to know. I may still cut the collar and I think this may help. This t shirt cost around $10.00 and I'm definatly going to get more wear out of it now! I have attached a link below of a great Youtube tutorial on how to achieve this, so it may be a little easier to understand then my pictures. Nicole

So today I have a small MAC Cosmetics haul, I only ended up getting a few things because it's so hard to know what colours etc are going to work with MAC counters being so hard to come by in New Zealand. I do have to say that I am in love with everything I got so far!! Blankety is a an Amplified Creme Lipstick which means that it's highly pigmented and creamy. I would describe this colour as a taupey soft pink. It's a great everyday wearable colour. MAC has so many amazing nudes that it's really hard to pick the perfect one! But after seeing heaps of swatches of lots of different colours I think I've picked a winner. This is such a versatile lipstick and i think it will work well on all skin tones, I'm definitely going to have to pick one up for my kit! Ravishing is a Cremesheen Lipstick which means that is slightly sheer but still super creamy. I would describe this colour as a soft peachy orange. I really wanted a orange lipstick but wanted something soft to begin with. This lipstick is perfect, it's soft and sheer and is such a pretty colour. Ruby Woo is a Retro Matte Lipstick which as the name would suggest is a matte lipstick. I would describe this colour as a deep (but not dark) red lipstick. I love a matte finish as it lasts so much longer throughout the day. This lipstick is creamy but dries quickly so I find it quite hard to apply, once it's on, it's on! I would definitely recommend a lip liner. The last thing I got is the Pro Longwear Foundation in NW15. This shade is perfect for my winter skin. It has a yellow undertone and is a light soft beige kind of colour. I got the Pro Longwear because it is supposed to last all day so I will definitely be putting it to the test and reporting back! The finish feels like a soft matte and after testing it I can already tell it has great coverage. I'll be doing a full review on this foundation so keep an eye out for that! Nicole xx Since moving to Tauranga, I have struggled to find a good Hairdresser. When you have a good knowledge of all that goes into being a Hairdresser (I'm meaning cutting, colouring, techniques, styling etc) it makes it extremely hard to trust anyone. I have had my hair cut once since being up here, however one side ended up being almost an inch longer so that put me off completely. I ended up just waiting until I was home to go to my old boss who I trust completely. I haven't been back home since December and as you can imagine by now my hair was getting pretty bad. It was down to my waist and the last inch and a half to two inches were damaged. I needed some freshening up! I found a voucher on Grab One for a cut and treatment deal for a new salon at Mount Maunganui called The Loft so decided to give it a go. I also wanted to update my colour and lighten it a little, similar to the picture of Lea Michelle I have attached. I like the way the lightness begins lower down on her face so shes still got a lot of depth which, if you are a brunete naturally, is generally a lot more flattering then having a lighter colour directly on the face. I also love the whole style of Lea's hair so this is where I am aiming to be by Summer time. So I decided to go for one of there cheaper foils options to start getting this look (which I'll keep lightening leading up to Summer to create this look). I started by getting a few inches off my length, I wanted the bottom to look more solid then wispy as I have fine hair to begin with and with bleaching it'll probably get back to wispy by itself in no time! We then sectioned off the top and fringe area and put around 20-30 foils finely weaved in the bottom section. When it was all ready to come off I got an Argan Oil Treatment (which made my hair look and feel amazing!) then I had my fringe recut in and a few more of the bad ends taken off. All in all i'm really happy with my new hair! It's not too light but it's a great start to going lighter for summer. I love the cut as the ends aren't too blunt but my hair looks alot fuller. The Loft has really good prices and lovely staff. I highly recommend you go in and see Donna for a new look! Let me know what you think and if you try them out! I've also attached a before and after below. If you want more information about The Loft I have attached there Facebook page below. Nicole xx https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Loft-Salon-Barbershop-Hair-Salon-Tauranga-Mt-Maunganui/305796442911373 So I was recently sent this product for review (and don't think this sways my decision!) so I thought I would do a little review on it. I was sent the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Oil Free Formula in Light. There are other formulas but I thought this one would be best for me. I have never liked BB Creams, I have tried two different ones and I've always found they just sit on the skin, even with setting powder they haven't given a nice finish. This is completely different though..it sunk into my skin much like foundation. My skin is pretty clear at the moment (besides a little recent scarring) and it made it look really even and almost flawless. It suggested to apply another thin layer over any areas that aren't covered, so I did this and found I didn't even need concealer! It's very matte (which I love as I have really oily skin) and because it's such a light liquidy texture I found it sunk into my brush which was actually really good for application! I pressed a little harder to get product then blended out lightly with my brush. I have found after wearing it for just over 8 hours with no touch ups, it has seperated around my nose and has a slightly cakey appearance in this area..but touching up during the day would probably help this. I find this BB Cream is like a foundation but super light in texture. Definitely recommend it for any one who's skin isn't too bad, it'll cover redness and small pimples but I wouldn't suggest it if you need a full coverage product. Let me know if you try it and what you think Nicole xx |
